Jolene is seriously taking over here...

HELLOOOO Nyrae Dawn’s people!!

She has VERY nicely turned her blog over to me for the day :-D because it’s my birthday :/

Back when I turned 16, birthdays were awesome. When I turned 18=awesome. 21=awesome. 25=weird, but good. 30=weeeiiirrd?? And this year… 36? WTF? I’m not OLD, lol.

But I figure, with age comes some license to do whatever I want. So here I am on Nyrae’s blog.

I met her back when I thought I wanted to write Women’s Fiction. I wanted to be the next Sophie Kinsella or Meg Cabot, or Kristin Higgins, or… You get the idea.

But – for the first time in my life (I barely read YA in high school) I’d started to get into YA lit. Nyrae was already an addict, and had this long list of YA books that I had to read. I started down the list and was blown away over and over again.

Books that blew me away that I might never have read without Nyrae: I Know It’s Over. Freefall. The Summer I Turned Pretty. Twenty Boy Summer. Split. And so many more I don’t know where to start.

So, that’s how our friendship started, and now if I don’t get an email from Nyrae at some point during the day, it’s a really, really weird day. We’ve written two books together. She let me crash on her couch and hang with her family (comfy couch, awesome family, hot husband, lol – this is sort of a joke, because I’m not alone in my assessment of Nyrae’s hubs), and I can’t imagine being in the writing world without her.

What A Boy Wants is the first book I read from her, and I laughed out loud so many times that I felt like I’d NEVER be able to write Young Adult books. I’m SO thrilled that her awesome stories are making it into the world, and that people are reading them and loving them as much as I do (almost as much as I do ;).

Every piece of success Nyrae gets is well-deserved, and I know she’s going to keep blowing people away with her fabulous stories.

So, thanks so much, friend, for letting me on your blog today!

AND BECAUSE IT’S MY BIRTHDAY I GET TO SHAMELESSLY SELF-PROMOTE!

These are my books. You can see Nyrae’s books on the left side there, and you probably know what they are anyway.

SO.

Leave a comment, and your email address. I will pick one commenter from this blog to get a free ebook of any one of Nyrae’s books you like, and a free copy of any one of my books you like :-D

Winners will be picked by either random org, or by my 9 year old daughter on Monday the 17th!

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!! *skips off to another blog…

  3. Freefall and Split were a few of the first YA books that grabbed my attention too. And the reason why I asked Mindi Scott if she'd be a part of my The Big Reveal author posting.

I would have to thank Jo for introducing me to Nyrae and several other self-published authors that I might have missed if I only stuck to buying books at Barnes and Nobles. There are so many talented self-pubbed writers like Nyrae and Jolene that have become my favorites and I'm sure we'll be reading their books for a long time to come.

    Happy Birthday, Jo.

  6. i didnt' read a whole lot of YA in high school either. Actually, I read A LOT in middle school, very little in high school and then decided to become a writer so it was imperative I start reading again :) haha.

So glad I found Nyrae and her awesome work. Same for you Jo. Now give me some more ;) hehe

  7. What a Boy Wants has been on my wish list for a while because of Jo's praise of it. Then...a friend who isn't connected with my online writing world (blogs I follow, etc.)mentioned randomly that her favorite recent YA read was What a Boy Wants. I think she picked it up in a local library.

With the recommendations of these two people I am now totally obligated to read this book SOON.

For you Jo - iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii (Might look like lots of little "i's" but they're actually birthday candles for you to blow out. Yes, there are 36.)
