He was one of my best friends. It's so funny, before we started dating he used to always joke around and call me beautiful. I thought it was just a friendly thing. Like I've said before I was friends with a lot of boys and to all of them, I was totally in the "friend category". Well, I guess not to all of them, I just didn't realize it.
My mom used to tease me all the time and say I would marry him one day to which I would laugh and tell her she was crazy. "We're just friends" I said over and over. I thought she was ridiculous because her whole reasoning was our dog who hated everyone, loved him from the start.
There was a dance...winter formal where I went with a guy friend and he went with his current girlfriend. We all posed for pictures and here's one of us...not together, but together ;) (notice how he has his whole head shaved except his bangs, lol).
This picture was more "proof" to my mom, but again, he didn't see me that way. We were friends, I insisted over and over.
Well he did. One day we were sitting in the living room of his house. He was building a fire. It was November. He looked really lost in thought and I asked, "What are you thinking about?"
And he replied simply... "You..."
And we've been together ever since.
He's my best friend. There's no one I could ever trust the way I trust him. We still laugh together. We still talk to each other. The other night we were at dinner and we were talking about my writing and how amazing this year has been and he made an off comment that started with, "We've always dreamed a lot..." I don't know why that struck me so much, but we HAVE. We've always sat around and made all these fun, silly plans for "someday" and even though half of them probably won't come true, it's one of my favorite things to do with him. Dream.
So! A HUGE HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my husband, Dom. I can't imagine my life without him.
Here's a picture of us together this summer.
