What You Should Be Reading by Jolene Perry
Each week on Wednesday I'm sharing lists of books that fly under the radar. Books myself or other authors have loved that we think you should be reading. Here's Jolene Perry's list.
On the paranormal side -
Shifting by Bethany Wiggins
Cool premise, w/ a fantastic love story. This blended everything I love about darker YA Contemp w/ an incredibly unique paranormal twist.
A YA Contemp that I'm always trying to get people to read is Waiting by Carol Lynch Williams. It's an upper YA, and her other books are lower. I loved the love story in this. The book is a bit dark and the family situation is completely heartbreaking, but the boy...sigh...
Where It Began by Ann Stampler - the voice in this book is incredible. I also loved that the reader understands the situation long before the girl does, but we still got to experience her realization and it was just as heartbreaking.
My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick - I will totally re-read this. Fantastic love story with a great twist, best "first time" ever, and a fab ending.
I'm totally going to plug a friends' book. Under the Dusty Sky by Allie Brennan - This book is on my short list of fantastic contemporary YA books. Love the love story. Love the crazy girl. Love the ending. Love me some Bentley...
Being Friends With Boys by Terra Elan McVoy - rock band? best friends to more? FAB voice? Yes, please...
Cracked Up To Be by Courtney Summers - Seriously. If you read books for the language as much as the story, you can't go wrong with Summers.
The Girl Who Chased the Moon by Sarah Addison Allen - I love her books. They're contemporary w/ a slight paranormalish twist. I'm sad this book wasn't put in the YA section, but it SHOULD be. FAB love story.
Jane by April Lindner - Taking Jane Eyre, one of my fav-evers, and turning Rochester into a rockstar?? Total win.
And those are my slightly obscure MUST READS...
